On a hyper-rational world where music and emotion are unknown, two pairs of telepathically linked fraternal twins—Cane and Awan, Eva and Seth—are chosen for a colonization mission to Earth after their people detect Beethoven’s Fifth as a sign of intelligent life. Selected as the mission’s astronauts, Cane and Eva begin the journey under the strict guidance of their twins back home, unaware that they are also carrying a living virus meant to wipe out humanity. But as Cane becomes dangerously captivated by the strange power of music and begins to experience forbidden emotions, the mission slowly unravels, pushing both him and Eva toward choices that threaten not only their connection to their hive-bound civilization, but the fate of an entire world.
