The Machchhu dam failure or Morbi disaster was a dam-related flood disaster which occurred on 11 August 1979, in India. મચ્છુ બંધ હોનારત અથવા મોરબી બંધ હોનારત એ પૂર હોનારત હતી જે ૧૧ ઓગસ્ટ ૧૯૭૯ના રોજ ભારતમાં સર્જાઇ હતી. મચ્છુ નદી પર આવેલો મચ્છુ-૨ બંધ તૂટતા રાજકોટ જિલ્લાના ‍(હવે, મોરબી જિલ્લામાં) મોરબી શહેરમાં પાણી ફરી વળ્યું હતું. વિવિધ અંદાજ અનુસાર ૧,૮૦૦ થી ૨૫,૦૦૦ લોકોના મૃત્યુ આ દુર્ઘટનામાં થયા હતા.

અત્યંત ભારે વરસાદ અને પૂરને કારણે ૪ કિમી લાંબા મચ્છુ-૨ બંધની દિવાલોમાં ગાબડાં પડ્યા હતા. બંધના સ્પિલવેની ક્ષમતા ૫,૬૬૩ મી³/સે હતી, જ્યારે વાસ્તવમાં પાણી બંધની ક્ષમતા કરતા ત્રણ ગણું એટલે કે ૧૬,૩૦૭ મી³/સે પર પહોંચતા બંધ તૂટી પડ્યો હતો. ૨૦ મિનિટમાં જ ૧૨થી ૩૦ ફીટ (૩.૭ થી ૯.૧ મીટર)ની ઉંચાઇના પાણી મોરબીના નીચાણ વાળા વિસ્તારમાં ફરી વળ્યાં હતા, જે બંધથી ૫ કિમી દૂર આવેલું શહેર હતું. બંધના ફરીથી બાંધકામ સમયે બંધની ક્ષમતા ચાર ગણી વધારીને ૨૧,૦૦૦ મી³/સે કરવામાં આવી હતી
