Filming the Battle of Helm's Deep was incredibly challenging, with practical effects playing a significant role. A real set was built, and most of the Uruk-hai seen are real actors in prosthetics and heavy suits, with CGI used mainly for background characters. Filming conditions were tough, involving cold, dark quarries, heavy rain, and cumbersome costumes. Despite the hardships, the effort resulted in one of the most epic battle scenes in film history. This is why we love the Lord of the Rings movies!
