Swayambhunath Stupa

The Swayambhunath Chaitya (stupa) of the Buddhist religion is believed to have first been constructed in its initial form during the Licchavi period of Kathmandu Valley, Nepal, 450–750 CE. The Swayambhu and the much later Baudha stupa (16th century) are the most popular local pilgrimage destinations for the various Tibetan communities.
