“Quinn the Eskimo (Mighty Quinn)"- Manfred Mann - (Bass Tab & COVER) FRANKS BASS COVERS
added clear tabs and music video
Released January 1968 from the album “The Mighty Quinn”
Saw Manfred Mann's Earth Band in concert in NYC; they opened for Gary Wright. They were sensational.
Song Notes:
Manfred Mann was an English rock band, formed in London and active between 1962 and 1969.
Named after their keyboardist Manfred Mann, who later led the successful 1970s group Manfred Mann's Earth Band
Song was written by Bob Dylan, but Manfred Mann was the first to record it.
Dylan is widely believed to have derived the title character from actor Anthony Quinn's role as an Eskimo in the 1960 movie The Savage Innocents.
The subject of the song is the arrival of Quinn (an Eskimo), who changes despair into joy and chaos into rest, and attracts attention from the animals.
Dylan has also been quoted as saying that the song was nothing more than a "simple nursery rhyme".
Manfred Mann had their #1 hit "Do Wah Diddy Diddy" from 1964 and
Manfred Mann’s Earth Band release of “Blinded by The Light” in February 1977, was also #1.
Note: it was only #1 Hot 100 hit Springsteen ever wrote. The Manfred Mann version was much more elaborately produced, and Springsteen hated it at first. It ended up earning him a very nice payout.
