EXTREMELY Rusty Potato Chipper SURPRISING Restoration

In this video I will be restoring a Metcalfe manual potato chipper. I found this chipper at a bootsale for £3. The purchase price is rather insignificant considering I spent just over £100 restoring it.
I began the restoration by stripping all the parts. I came to a standstill when it was time to remove the 2 posts. At first I thought it was threaded. Then I tried pushing from the bottom. Finally I realised it only moved in one direction. My air impact gun quickly solved that issue along with my friends fire and WD40.
The next step was cleaning and sandblasting. My only issue here was finding a solution to clean the spring. After a lot of thinking. I finally found a way to make a little bracket and mount the spring for the duration of the restoration.
My next hurdle was deciding on a design for the stand. I decided to replicate the manufacturers design. At first I wanted to keep the metal bare. That is why I chose stainless steel. However I quickly realised my mig skills were non existent. I believe the wire was way to big at 0.8mm. My plan quickly changed after I found a local supplier who gave me some stainless arc welding rods to try. Immediately my welds were so much better and I tried removing and replacing as many mig welds as possible. The next stage was paint. At first I chose white paint to cover up my terrible welds. However the colour was way too plain and the paint didn’t adhere as advertised. After leaving it to dry over night I spent a couple hours sanding all the paint off. I started the process all over again. This time I primed the part with a red primer. I quickly realised red was the way to go. What colour would you have preferred, red or white?.
My last hurdle was stickers. I thought I could save the red sticker. However after heating up the screws on the frame the sticker shrivelled and cracked once it cooled. After a little tinkering on the iPad I managed to replicate the sticker as best as I could. Although they didn’t print perfectly on my cheap inkjet printer I am more than happy with the results.
