A nine-foot nurse shark, colorful lobsters, and a massive sea turtle -- just a few of the surprises below the surface of the Atlantic off Fort Lauderdale. I dove with Sea Experience dive shop in Fort Lauderdale for this stunning two-tank dive. Even though Pennekamp is a relatively short drive south to Key Largo, I'm glad I chose to dive locally. The Merci Jesus wreck is at a depth of 72 feet. It was a drug smuggling ship seized in the 1990s by drug enforcement, then it was sunk to make an artificial reef. Visibility approached 90 feet or greater, because we could see the whole wreck at once, and it's 90 feet long. I chased the shark at my full speed -- her idle speed. The dive was in the partial reopening during COVID-19, and we had just four divers on a large dive boat. Dive Master Andrew was great. This was shot in 4K on a DJI Osmo Action plus a $15 dive housing. My light broke, so it's all natural light.
