How to remove and plumb up new radiators!

Welcome back to the channel on today’s video I’m back at the job where I installed the powertank, it’s still working beautifully and I have some radiators to fit and swap so what we’re gonna do is we’re gonna swap out the radiator from upstairs and bring that down and the one that I had to remove because we have to make radiator a smaller will put that upstairs in its place. It’s obviously gonna be some alterations will be draining down removing the radiators without spilling any water. Got a little technique for that and also when we’re done put inhibitor back into the system with my unique way.

So the system is on drain with the boiler shut off and I’ve opened all the air vents in the house to drop all the water and get some air in to release everything out of the system we’re gonna be using some tools called plumbthumbs what they allow you to do is when you’ve undone the valves from the radiator you can screw these on and then you’re able to make sure none of the water can come out as you’re dragging it through the customers house all over their floors.

Start with the radiator upstairs and we’ve used the Derblaue foldable drip tub to protect the carpet and also the foldable tubs underneath the radiator valves to catch water water when we remove the valves and empty the radiator. Replacing this radiator with a thinner but longer so the pipework is gonna be out but it will fit the room better as it gives more space to get in between the bed and the wall once the radiator is removed off safely and moved out the way I can disconnect the old valves cut out the pipework hang the new radiator from downstairs and start to pipe up.

The bottom and left-hand side is nice and easy. We just need to cut it and extend with two elbows kick it back against the wall. The pipework is really close to the wall and the skirting board so sold is a little bit difficult using my heat trail I did mark the skirting for it is very very minimal. There’s no physical damage to it. A slight discolouration and a little bit of glass will hide that perfectly . There’s no reason to put clips underneath as the pipework is rigid on the right hand side came out the wall on a different height so I’ve literally just come straight sideways and up into the valve when you stand back at normal height distance, you can’t see any of the pipework so I think that’s about as good as you’re gonna get.

For the downstairs radiator we just have to extend the pipes a little bit and come out as a radiator is shorter but this one’s a bit more simpler with the pipes above the skirting and using two elbows instead of bands just to make sure that everything is uniform in the house. With the pipework all done and the radiator is connected with the valves we need to add some inhibitor into the system. This is a anticorrosion liquid. How I like to put it in the radiators is through the oven obviously but because it’s sideways, I have made a little rig up with stainless steel fittings and yes, I know you can get the filler tools with the house but with my one I can fully adapted to either sideways radiator or even vertical for towel rails. Also be made out of stainless steel this is gonna last a lifetime!

 after filling the heating system with water from the boiler always make sure that you’ve left it to the correct pressure which is normally between one and one and a half bar we could switch the boiler on and give it a good test and I like to use my thermal imaging camera from hikmicro which can show you how the radiator is circulating with heat and also which pipe is what either flow or return and if you’ve got pipework behind a dot and dab wall it will even pick that up as well.
