Playing Catan With a US National Champion Gets Weird

This video features two more ranked Catan games with 2023 Catan US National Champion Griffin Burstyn as we keep working through a tough start to the season. The first game gets strange fast, with a weird wood port setup, nervous opponents, and a table that clearly does not want to let us play a normal game. Fear and reputation shape a lot of the early decisions, trades dry up, and the game goes in directions you would never expect on paper.

The second game could not look more different. We take a clean ore wheat sheep setup and try to play a straightforward production game, but the dice refuse to cooperate for most of the match. The game turns into a lesson in patience, positioning, and trusting the setup even when nothing seems to be working. Playing with a national champion gives great insight into how elite players handle weird boards, bad rolls, and high pressure situations without forcing anything too early.

If you enjoy high level Catan, unusual setups, elite strategy, and seeing how table dynamics change when a champion sits down, this is a fun one to watch all the way through.
