Runners' view recording of the AEPG Peterborough Great Eastern Run 2025.
Video recorded using a head-mounted GoPro Hero Black 12 in Linear FOV with a DigiPower Re-fuel extended battery pack attached. Stabilization was provided in real time by the GoPro's "HyperSmooth 6" EIS with AutoBoost active.
Metrics recorded using a Samsung Galaxy Watch 4 and a Polar H7 heart-rate monitor - which seemed to be having a difficult time measuring my heart-rate, more on that later.
Software-wise, the excellent GhostRacer app did the recording on the watch, and the video overlay was provided by the open-source gpx2video program, with the GPX file and video manually synced as a "best effort" attempt.
I'm not sure quite when the camera ended up at an angle, but if I find out when I go through the footage in detail later, I'll mention it here. I mainly remember getting a bit of a headache from the bouncing camera by the time I was eight miles or so in, and occasionally trying to stop the mount from becoming a channel for sweat to get into my eyes; if it wasn't one of those occasions, it'll have been when I tightened up the straps.
Bit of a foggy start to the day, with humidity up in the 90% range, but thankfully the temperatures were around 10°C by the time the race started, and didn't get much higher than about 15°C by the end. Still felt the sweat lingering by the end of the first mile though!
Last year's video might contradict me here, but I thought there were more supporters on the course this year, which was good to see. The channel towards the finish, with the city centre crowds lining the barriers, was just the ticket for that tough final mile! I didn't put in a sprint until I was within maybe 100m of the finish line, and that was probably wise, as I wondered if I was going to need the St John's Ambulance wheelchair once I'd crossed the line! :D This time though, I did remain standing.
Although I was a couple of minutes slower than last year, I was relieved that this wasn't a repeat of my RunThrough Peterborough performance - that combination of late June heat and lakeside humidity really did a number on me!
I'll try to flag up some video highlights once I've had a chance to re-watch the video...
