In this video I will show you how I get dressed in my Historically Accurate Erika Outfit inspired by Barbie and the Princess and the Pauper.
Melissa of @HattoHem and I were chatting after our Little Women collab about the new Barbie movie coming out this summer, and how it would be so much fun to do a Barbie collab, and we realized that we both had loved Erika from The Princess and the Pauper. SO we thought it would be great to explore different sides of Erika, Melissa made the screen accurate version of her dress and I decided to make a "Historically Accurate" version of what Erika could have looked like in the mid 1700's.

Getting dressed in the 1760's:
The base layers of 18th century clothing are the shift, under petticoat, and stays.
Clocked stocking that go all the way to the knee would be worn. Clocking is a term for decorative embroidery that is used to strengthen socks at its most stressed points around the heel and ankle and then continue up the lower leg.
Leather shoes with a small heel were a common design throughout the 18th century. These shoes close with ties. I bought these shoes from a historical shoe reproduction company called Fugawee. These shoes are called the Anna Style.

Next I tie on my pocket that is decorated with embroidery. I made this pocket and have a YouTube video linked below where you can watch as I construct it.

Next I will be putting on the petticoat. This petticoat is made out of pink linen and has to waist tapes that ties around the waist. I always tie the back part of my skirt 1st and then the front. There are 10 inch slits on the side of the petticoat that allows me to access my pocket.
Next I will place my handkerchief from Burnley and Trowbridge around my neck to act as a fichu.
A fichu is a large square piece of fabric, folded into a triangle and worn around the neck to fill in the low neckline of a bodice.

I then pin my stomacher onto my stays using pins. These are silver pins from Townsend’s. They are 2 and 1/4 inch long, sturdy, and finished with an elegant spiral head.

Next it was time to put on my blue linen jacket. The sleeves are this jacket we’re rather tight so it was a little hard to get the sleeves of my shift to lay right under it, but with a little coaxing they came down. The edges of the shift should be visible with this style of jacket.
I then laces up the front of my jacket using pink satin cord.
To finish the look I placed my white linen cap on my head.
