Day 1: Parked truck at West Prong trailhead and walked the 3 miles up Tremont Rd. Started by hiking Middle Prong trail. Made a short side trip to Indian Flats Falls. Joined up with Greenbrier Ridge trail and hiked up to the AT. Did the 2.4 miles on the AT up to Miry Ridge trail intersection, then hiked back to stay at the Derrick Knob shelter. Evening entertainment was watching chipmonks grab buckeyes from a pile on the ground. It started raining around 8:30pm and continued all evening.
Day 2: Woke to heavy rain. Left shelter in the rain and hiked the AT 6.0 to Bote Mountain trail. The AT had some steep ups and went over Thunderhead Mountain and Rocky Top. No views due to all the rain. Headed down Bote Mountain trail and decided to hike back to truck via West Prong trail due to all the rain and cold conditions. Slept cozy in back of truck and stayed warm and dry.
Happy hiking!🥾
