I have been on a mission in recent years to close some of the gaping holes in our understanding of wildlife management and conservation. We are still living in a time where we seem to think that nature continues to exist in countries like South Africa and other African nations untouched, wild, and free of human influence. This couldn't be further from the truth. If it wasn't for people learning to coexist with their wildlife there would be very little of it left on the continent. Setting aside areas for wildlife to live in while earning a living from these areas has been the key to South Africa boasting the wildlife numbers that it does. However, the management of these landscapes, the habitat, and wildlife has become key to maintaining these areas as healthy eco-systems.
In this conservation short, I explain the basics of Game Capture. An action-packed, very efficient way of managing wildlife in large numbers. Due to the inception of fence lines to maintain these wildlife areas and prevent human-wildlife conflict, a lot of species can not undertake historical migrations to cope with seasonal changes. Game Capture is a management tool used to protect habitat from overgrazing and browsing. It also allows reserves to generate an income from the sale of wildlife to continue to maintain a reserve.
Let's be clear, our future and the future of nature are intertwined making us part of its success or demise. Finding ways to co-exist should be a common understanding among anyone interested or invested in the future of the natural world. This video is aimed at taking an honest look at how we can be involved in creating a realistic further for people, landscapes and wildlife.
