A visit was made on Thursday 17th July to the Eastleigh Lakeside Miniature Railway in Hampshire. Due to a steam ban due to potential line side fires Class 25 diesel Loch Lee number 25179 was in service today.
The railway has been delighting generations of visitors since 1993 - having grown in scale and popularity, it is now regarded as one of Hampshire's must-visit family destinations.
The journey starts at Parkway Station, the railway’s main terminus - not just a starting point, but home to a cafe, gift shop and 9 hole crazy golf course. The route is a 1¼ mile, 20 minute round-trip through Lakeside Country Park.
Midway through the journey, the train stops off at Monks Brook Station where children can explore the adventure playground, whilst the whole family can unwind with a picnic in the park’s green spaces.
You can then board one of the regular return trains to travel through the UK's longest miniature railway tunnel!
Trains are hauled by an impressive fleet of coal-fired steam and diesel locomotives, all running on tracks of 7 ¼ and 10 ¼ inches.
All trains have a luggage carriage, built especially to accommodate buggies and folded wheelchairs/mobility scooters.
