Southern 377 Electrostar EMU | Interior/Walkthrough | Standard & First Class | 4 Carriages

A Full Walkthrough of a Southern class 377 Electrostar (4 carriage) train. Southern is part of Govia Thameslink Railway.
This video is a full walkthrough all 4 carriages in both first class and standard class. The class 377 with Southern have been with Southern since they were introduced.

There are 2 main formations to the Southern class 377 with this video showing a 4 carriage version. There are also 5 carriage versions which entered service later and feature a very different interior layout and seat design closer to other Electrostar units with Gatwick Express and Great Western Railway. This 4 carriage version has a small first class section at each end with the rest of the train being standard class.

The interior of the 4 carriage class 377 with Southern are currently in the process of being refurbished in a 5 year refurbishment program, this was filmed on an unit not yet refurbished at the time of filming. The 4 carriage units with Southern were some of the first electrostar units and have seats with much more padding than all later Electrostar units. Seating is 2+2 in first class with standard being 2+2 layout in the driving carriages and 2+3 in the trailer carriages. This layout means the trains are more suited to there workings as they are used on longer journeys from London to Brighton, Eastbourne, Hastings, Portsmouth and Southampton as well as local workings across the Southern network.

The 4 carriage Southern class 377 units work all Southern longer distance workings along with the majority of commuter routes around London (London routes are shared with the 5 carriage versions). They are also used on some Coastway workings alongside the class 313 3 carriage units. Recently these units took over the services previously operated by class 455 units as these have now left Southern.

Note that as this was filmed when distancing was in place I did not enter the front first class section due to a member of train crew sat in there (this first class section is the same as the one shown at the other end of the train).
