Winter Largemouth Bass fishing is still upon us. In this video I go bank bashing in the REALLY cold weather to catch those bass that are still in there winter phase.

August is the time for largemouth bass to move into the shallow water to start there journey to make more bass. The pre spawn is a time where you can fish the shallow waters of the bank and you can catch those pre spawn largemouth bass. In ideal conditions this would have been the case but the weather unfortunately went from sunny weather to over cast, windy, rainy and very cold in a matter of a couple hours. The weather has a great impact on how bass react and move around in the water column. Bad winter weather will push those bass deeper or they will huddle up in safe areas where they feel more comfortable.

Throwing around moving bait for bass in this weather is never ideal. the Cull shad was to big for winter bass to attack and the square bill was not the right option to fish since the bass where have not moved into there pre spawn pattern yet. After trying to force these largemouth bass to bite these lures, I picked up my flipping rig and started making cast in and around those Burnt reed. Reeds are a great piece of structure for largemouth bass to hide in but also reeds will hold a great amount of heat and oxygen though out the winter period. This is why flipping is a great technique for year round success.

The R50 dam has been a piece of water where I can confidently say I will always catch a bass out of the reeds. This technique is very effective if your bait choice is the Black creature Hawg by Berkley. The MAxscent technology in the bait will even get those lock jaws to bite even when times are tougher then usual. The colour is very important aswell because the dams at the R50 dam are very dirty and stained and the Black will just stand out more then you natural coloured baits. Flipping these reeds in dirty water is tricky because you need to put it into places where largemouth bass will be hiding. So make accurate casts.

The gear that you use very important because you will be trying to catch those bass in areas where the vegetation is very thick. So strong gear is going to be very important to get those bass out of that cover.

Thanks for watching this bank fishing missino out at the R50 dam. Even tho the weather wasn't the greatest, I still managed to get some on the bank and I still managed to show you that it is not impossible to catch Largemouth bass in tough conditions.
