The Seasonal Performance Factor (SPF) indicates whether a heat pump makes a net use of renewable energy by exchanging with air, water, ground, etc. In this way, part of the energy generated by the heat pump comes from renewable sources, but not in any amount: regulations and standards define the minimum threshold from which a heat pump can be considered renewable.
At first glance, the concept may seem complex, but when delving into the philosophy behind this criterion, it becomes clear that we simply need to produce more thermal energy than was originally required to carry out the process. In doing so, we harness renewable energy.
