Approval was given on the 28th of March 1939 for the acquisition of land at Forres for development as a Relief Landing Ground for Kinloss
On the 25th of January 1941 RAF Forres opened as a satellite for No. 19 OTU at Kinloss in No.6 Group at KINLOSS to train night bomber crews with Whitleys and Ansons.
A roughly oval airfield with 2 grass strips NE-SW 1,700 yards and NW-SE 1,100 yards in a not ideal location, having the River Findhorne curling around the north and west sides of the flying field.
on the 22 of October No. 19 ceased using the airfield, at which point the Air Ministry loaned most of the domestic facilities to the War Department in November 1944, for use as a Prisoner of War Camp
Forres served in this capacity until mid 1947 when it was abandoned and left to slowly decay until it was sold off in the early 1950s
