Welcome to the Ron Spomer Outdoors Podcast! In this episode, I answer listener questions about reloading, eastern Whitetail hunting, and how to become an outdoor writer!
00:58 - It feels like reloading may quickly become a thing of the past. What's your opinion?
04:34 - I’ve read that Melvin Forbes builds his rifles on a “true centerline”. Could you clarify what exactly that means?
06:16 - I noticed that Remington came out w/ a Core-lokt Tipped bullet. It's the Core-lokt bullet that Remington is known for with a polymer tip to help with the BC. I have a 30-06 that shoots 165 gr ammunition the best. Keeping shots at reasonable (under 350 yards) distances, would this ammunition be ok for elk?
11:25 - I am a young, aspiring gun writer and avid outdoorsman. Do you have any tips for a beginner looking to make a career out of what we love to do? Thank you for your videos and articles. I really appreciate the knowledge and experience you share.
16:33 - What experience do you have with eastern whitetail hunting? Any cartridge recommendations? Ranges are much shorter than in western hunting.
21:14 - What grain do you like best for the .270 Winchester?
23:49 - How do the cartridges used on North American game translate to African game? I see a ton of information about the best cartridges for elk, moose, and other common American species, but what about the antelope here in South Africa? Would love to hear your cartridge recommendations for South African game.

Who is Ron Spomer
For 44 years I’ve had the good fortune to photograph and write about my passion – the outdoor life. Wild creatures and wild places have always stirred me – from the first flushing pheasant that frightened me out of my socks in grandpa’s cornfield to the last whitetail that dismissed me with a wag of its tail. In my attempts to connect with this natural wonder, to become an integral part of our ecosystem and capture a bit of its mystery, I’ve photographed, hiked, hunted, birded, and fished across much of this planet. I've seen the beauty that everyone should see, survived adventures that everyone should experience. I may not have climbed the highest mountains, canoed the wildest rivers, caught the largest fish or shot the biggest bucks, but I’ve tried. Perhaps you have, too. And that’s the essential thing. Being out there, an active participant in our outdoor world.
