LT GRADE ENGLISH EXAM PATTERN
Preliminary Exam
The preliminary exam has 150 objective questions for 150 marks, with a negative marking of 0.33 for each wrong answer.
General Studies (30 questions): This section covers a broad range of topics including Indian history, geography, polity, economy, general science, and current events.
English Subject (120 questions): This section tests your knowledge of English grammar and literature. Key topics include:
Grammar: Parts of speech, tenses, articles, prepositions, sentence structure, direct/indirect speech, punctuation, and figures of speech.
Vocabulary: Synonyms, antonyms, idioms, and phrases.
Comprehension: Unseen passages for language and appreciation.
Literature: Questions on prose, poetry, and drama, with a focus on theme analysis, character study, and literary devices. The literature portion is at the graduation level.
Mains Exam
Candidates who qualify the preliminary exam proceed to the descriptive mains exam. This paper has a total of 200 marks and is comprised of two sections:
Section A (10 short-answer questions): Each question is worth 8 marks with a word limit of 125 words, totaling 80 marks.
Section B (10 long-answer questions): Each question is worth 12 marks with a word limit of 200 words, totaling 120 marks.
The syllabus for the mains exam is similar to the preliminary exam but requires a more in-depth, descriptive approach to the same topics.
