Green and Grey Butterfly Dot Mandala - Tutorial - Step by Step

Watch me paint this green and grey Wooden Butterfly Dot Mandala step by step... it's a challenge painting objects that are not your traditional round shape but so much fun! Hopefully this will inspire you to think outside the square... or circle... and paint your own favourite animal, shape or design that you haven't tried before... just remember, there is no right or wrong, just enjoy the process... there are heaps of wooden cutout designs available on my Website... the links are below... or, simply draw your favourite animal silhouette or shape on a square canvas you already have...

Paints used are a mix of Global Acrylics for the shades of grey and the green is a mix of various paints and mica powders... at a rough ratio of 1 part pouring medium to 3-4 parts paint and a healthy splash of water to get the right consistency... There is never an exact ratio as pigments in the paint will vary... some are thicker than others...

This butterfly measures approx. 212mm high x 290mm wide...
The guidelines are drawn using a watercolour pencil... rings are 1cm apart and I have just draw guidelines using a protractor...

The Ball Stylus Dotting tools I am using in the video are from the McGill Paper Blossoms Tool Kit and the dotting rods are from Happy Dotting Company...
