During New York City's famous blackout of 1977, Nelson was sitting on the front steps of 5 Ninth Avenue when a scared, runaway Labrador Retriever puppy wandered by. The puppy came up to Nelson on the steps, and it was love at first sight. Nelson took the puppy in, named him Blackout, and the two were best friends until Nelson's sudden passing in 1989. After that, Larry Tee and Lahoma took care of Blackout at 5 Ninth Avenue until Blackout passed away in 1990. This is Nelson Sullivan's video of one of the trips they took together around the West Village.
