Often conceived as a western concept, gender equality and gender justice are equally hotly debated topics in Muslim-majority countries. In Morocco, a third way of conceptualizing gender is being developed that bridges western feminism with Islamic principles. Prof. Gray discusses the ways in which Morocco is spearheading new and culturally relevant ways of envisioning more equitable gender relations that go beyond the conventional dichotomy of Islamic feminism versus secular feminism.
