Happy World Ballet Day! Celebrated by ballet companies across the globe, today is a day to celebrate our art form. This year’s theme is Access Becomes Art, “inviting artists and audiences to experience ballet in transformative new ways.” At Boston Ballet, we embraced this theme as an exciting lens to showcase our dedication to the versatility and accessibility of dance through our Adaptive Dance program.
Boston Ballet’s Adaptive Dance program was created as the first of its kind and is now a full school year, age-based program that provides dance instruction to students of all disabilities into adulthood. This program is one of the ways we champion our mission to make dance for everyone!
This year, we explore these central ideas through a partnership with the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum. Our students show how one art form can give way to another, in expansive, innovative ways. Watch our students find their artistic voice as they connect the shapes of their own movement with the shape of the pearls in the Portrait of Isabella Stewart Gardner by John Singer Sargent.
