Today I tested a number of hall-effect sensors. A hall-effect sensor is a component that responds to the proximity of a magnetic field. It works a bit like a transistor: the circuit is normally open or normally closed depending on the type and when a magnet is present the sensor switches to the other state.
For the large sequencer for my diy synthesizer I use hall-effect sensors (if possible!) as pickups for the drum triggers.
