For a variety of reasons--one of which was the decades of abuses of Whites on black slaves in North America and another being his view, probabilistic, that Blacks were inferior in genius to Whites--Jefferson did not believe that Blacks could be incorporated into the budding American nation, without problems. Yet he thought otherwise about Native Americans. They exhibited genius, imagination, and moral integrity, and so, miscegenation with Whites posed no difficulties. They could readily be incorporated into the US.
Yet Indians did not so eagerly see integration into the American nation as a boon. And so, Jefferson's attitude towards American indigenes became ambivalent. The Cap'n and the Colonel explain....
