"The Door In The Wall" Technicolor and Vistavision. based on HG Wells story. Feature film material - experimental film. Continued.
The boy's father asks him where he had been when he ran away. He explains about the Secret Garden he found but everyone thinks he is lying. His father goes upstairs to cane the boy. The boy's Maiden Aunt throws a book of Fairy Tales onto the fire. The boy lies in bed crying. He prays to be taken back to the garden.
The boy - now a grown man - explains to his colleague. He never got the chance to find the garden again. He explains how he found the gate one day when on his way to school.
The boy - now older - runs around trying to make his way to school. He gets lost amongst the back streets of London. Then, unexpectedly, he comes across the door once more - but rather than go in, he hears the school bell and runs off. He marks the wall to help him find his way back to the door. He argues with older boys at the end of school as they try to follow him. He follows the arrows back with the others but they can't find the door. The older lads are annoyed and steal his trousers in a schoolboy prank.
The two men continue their discussion - The man tells how he has seen the door several times at auspicious points in his life and has always chosen to advance his career rather than go in. He has now decided to re-enter the garden if he can find it. He leaves his friend.
A policeman stands on guard by the magic door. When the man's friend arrives he is shown through the door and we see the searching man laying dead having fallen into a large hole behind the door. We see once more the boy playing in the garden.
End credits run. Interesting material - due to Vistavision technique may be difficult to cut with other material.
