Print on Demand companies such as IngramSpark and Amazon include a page at the back of the book for their barcode. This impacts book layout. Watch this video to avoid a nasty surprise, blank pages!
Planning to self-publish your picture book through print on demand? Then make sure you understand how page count works. It's one thing to know that a book has 32 pages, but it's something else entirely to know how that page count is impacted by print on demand. Why? Because there's a secret no one tells you.
Want to get in on the secret? Here it is: both IngramSpark and Amazon (KDP) include a page at the back of your book for their barcode. Okay, fine, you say. So what? Well, there's a catch. IngramSpark requires that your final page count be divisible by 2 and KDP requires that your final page count be divisible by 4. Which means if you send in a 32-page file, you're going to end up with blanks pages at the end your beautiful book that you've spent so much time and money to create.
Want to know the solution to the problem? Watch on!
