After months of dreaming, planning, and prepping, it’s finally happening—my solo motorcycle journey from Guadalajara, Mexico to Ushuaia, Argentina, and then all the way back north to Alaska has officially begun!
In this episode, I kick things off with a serious challenge: covering over 1,500 kilometers in just three days. My goal is to reach Tenosique, Tabasco, right near the Guatemalan border, and begin the next leg of my adventure through Central America. It's a lot of distance to take on right at the start, but I’m eager to get moving and make up time since I’ll be returning through Mexico more slowly later in my journey.
Originally, my plan was to ship my bike directly to South America and start the ride from Ushuaia—the southernmost city in the world. But after weeks of searching, I couldn't find a reliable or affordable shipping option, so I decided to change course: ride the bike there instead. I’ll travel fairly quickly heading south, and then take my time coming back, exploring dirt roads, connecting with people, and soaking in the landscapes.
Of course, there are obstacles—like the infamous Darién Gap, a dense jungle between Panama and Colombia that’s impassable by road. I'll need to ship the bike across, most likely by air freight from Panama to Bogotá, though I’m also considering flying it to Santiago, Chile.
This episode takes you through:
Day 1: A grueling 700 km ride from Guadalajara to Puebla, with incredible views of Popocatépetl and Iztaccíhuatl, two of Mexico’s tallest and most iconic volcanoes.
Day 2: A 500 km stretch to Coatzacoalcos, Veracruz—navigating truck-choked highways, dodging potholes, and getting a close look at Pico de Orizaba, Mexico’s highest peak.
Day 3: The final push to Tenosique, crossing several major rivers like the Coatzacoalcos, Grijalva, and Usumacinta, with a quick break and a taco stop thrown in, of course.
Along the way, I deal with toll booths, fuel anxiety, my brake pedal trying to fall off, and traffic jams that test my patience. But I also enjoy jaw-dropping mountain views, a walk on the beach, and wetting my feet in the Gulf of Mexico.
This is just the beginning of a massive adventure that will span continents. If you're into motorcycle travel, epic road trips, or just enjoy watching someone chase a dream—this journey is for you.
