Cap-Haitien, also known as "Le Cap" or "O-Kap" locally, is a city with a rich and complex history, marked by periods of colonial rule, revolution, and independent thought. Founded in 1670 by the French, it quickly became a thriving port and the capital of the French colony of Saint-Domingue. Renowned for its wealth and sophistication, it was nicknamed "The Paris of the Antilles". The city played a pivotal role during the Haitian Revolution, being the site of both conflict and resistance.
