In the 1890s there were 37 pubs lined on the just under two miles of Old Kent Road. Today, only two pubs remain. I went down a probably ill advised rabbit hole trying to find out about those 35 pubs - what were they called, how old were they, when did they close and why...?
Thanks to https://pubshistory.com/ for lots of useful resources, and also to a pub historian named Geoff Rossiter who has some great research on the Layers of London site: https://www.layersoflondon.org/map/co...
Here's the article on the Kentish Drovers mural restoration efforts: https://www.heritageoflondon.org/proj...
This is a companion / addendum to this video, looking at the pubs which still survive in the area: • Old Kent Road (and nearby) Pubs
