At 04:38 a.m. local time, December 20, 2025.
Along the coast of Sevastopol, 15 Ukrainian Liutyi-3M UAVs ripped through the night sky.
They surged forward at speeds exceeding 280 mph (≈450 km/h), skimming the coastal terrain at an altitude of just 165 feet (≈50 meters), exploiting every microscopic gap in Russia’s coastal radar network with surgical precision.
Their target was Belbek Air Base — home to two Russian Air Force Su-27 Flanker fighters. Just three days earlier, these very aircraft had carried out an airstrike on a residential area in Mykolaiv, killing more than 300 civilians.
Now, the two jets had just completed pre-strike preparations for yet another sortie. Each aircraft was armed with two Kh-29TE air-to-surface missiles, fitted with 705-pound (≈320 kg) penetrating warheads, and two RBK-500 SPBE cluster munitions carrying sensor-fused anti-armor submunitions.
The flight crews believed a routine mission lay ahead — unaware that this night would mark their end.
Within minutes, Ukraine’s UAV formation was about to teach one of Russia’s most elite air-defense systems a half-billion-dollar lesson.
