Exact knowledge of the near-field radiation profiles of chip-integrated optical waveguides is essential for maximizing the fiber-to-chip coupling efficiency through a proper selection of chip-external coupling components, e.g. micro-lenses or spot-size-converting waveguides. In this online-seminar we will revise basic methods for optical characterization of integrated optical waveguides as well as the ways to increase the fiber-chip coupling efficiency.
