In today’s POV canteen-style cooking video, I’m making my own version of the iconic Irish Spice Bag — except here in the canteen it’s served as an Irish Spice Box. Same legendary late-night favourite, just in a practical container instead of a paper bag!

My version includes:
✅ Chunky chips – fluffy perfection
✅ Southern fried chicken – crunchy coating, juicy inside
✅ Beansprouts, peppers & onions – lightly stir-fried
✅ Chinese salt & pepper seasoning – a mix of chilli, garlic, MSG and aromatic spices
✅ Chinese curry sauce – rich, comforting and essential to the dish

A proper fusion feast with Irish takeaway flair and Chinese-inspired flavours.

🥡 A Quick History of the Irish Spice Bag / Spice Box

The Irish Spice Bag exploded in popularity around the 2010s, especially in Dublin. It’s an Irish creation inspired by Chinese takeaway dishes, mixing chips, crispy chicken, peppers, onions, chilli, and salt & pepper seasoning, traditionally all tossed in a paper bag. Over time, takeaways began serving spice boxes too — same idea, just served in a container. Despite the Chinese-style flavours, it remains a uniquely Irish comfort-food invention and a social-media favourite.
