Hass Avocado, Jackfruit Launched As Mindanao's New Agro-Industrial Crops

New Agro-Industries Born;
MinDA Leads Programs!

The Mindanao Development Authority (MinDA) on Monday, May 17, launched two new agro-industrial crops to boost Mindanao's economy and address poverty while re-greening the mountains.

It was a historic event for Mindanao and Philippine Agriculture as it marked the first time that a government agency assisted in introducing a new agro-industrial activity with a plan for a complete value chain.

The Hass Avocado and Jackfruit Industry Program of MinDA will following scientific and environmental protocols, including studies on the market absorptive capacity, to ensure success.

Participating farmers will be assured of technical and financial support while research and development will be made an indispensable part of the program.

I am proud to be personally involved in this program in my capacity as Chairman of the Mindanao Development Authority and I am happy that even after I left the Department of Agriculture, MinDA's mandate allows me take these initiatives in the context of socio-economic development of Mindanao.
