Presenter Amanda Goodenow is a highly experienced occupational therapist (OT) with over 20 years helping older adults to enhance their quality of life and physical awareness. Since 2017 she has been a driving force behind the CAPABLE program's growth and success and continues her practice as a CAPABLE OT - providing direct care to her clients.
CAPABLE was developed by Johns Hopkins University. It is a home-based program of four to five months where an occupational therapist (OT), a registered nurse (RN), and a handy worker assist older adults in setting goals and creating action plans to improve their health, independence, and safety. It empowers older adults to learn new skills and increase their abilities to handle activities of daily living. This program is already in place in Nova Scotia in partnership with the Victorian Order of Nurses.
