This week on HakTip, Shannon walks through the Maltego interface.

Today we're checking out Maltego's Interface. You've already run your first data mine, if you've watched my last episode. But today I wanted to show you some more information about the interface itself, such as how to get around, how to select items, and what everything means.
First off, that entity that you dragged and dropped into your graph? That's called a node. You can have multiple nodes on a graph, and you can select as many as you want by dragging your mouse around to them. You can also Shift + Left Click to pick and choose, similar to using a file directory. You can also pan by right clicking and moving your mouse in a direction, or use the arrow keys to select one node, then another, then another. You can also move around in the overview tab with the left mouse.
Right clicking shows you the options to run a transform. If you go to all transforms, you can see these little icons. One is for changing the options for a transform, and the other is a link to an online wiki help page. You'll also see more info if you just hover over the transform. When you run a transform, a little progress bar appears at the bottom and disappears when it's completed.
The weird steampunk button at the top is called the Maltego Application Button. You'll notice a lot of average options under this menu, including new, open, and save. You can save graphs as an .mtgx. You can also import and export graphs. If you export all the data from a maltego collection, it'll convert into an mtz file and you can then share that with other maltego users. Hit the options button to set up a proxy, and a default browser.
Let me know what you think. Send me a comment below or email us at [email protected]. And be sure to check out our sister show, Hak5 for more great stuff just like this. I'll be there, reminding you to trust your technolust.
