Starting out the day with a late breakfast at the KINGFISHER RESTAURANT on PARNELL STREET in the outside veranda. Perfect meal with eggs, bacon, sausage, pudding, baked beans, mushrooms, chips, and toast with a MURPHY'S STOUT to wash it all down then it's off to TRINITY COLLEGE with a walk down O'CONNELL STREET to see the BOOK OF KELLS. Trinity College is the oldest university in Ireland (founded 1592) and home of the Book of Kells in the OLD LIBRARY since the 1600s. The Book of Kells is a masterpiece of medieval art containing the four gospels of the New Testament (over 1,000 years old) written by monks @ 800 AD from Scotland (Iona) and Ireland (Abbey of Kells). It sits on display behind bullet-proof glass in a climate controlled environment. Above the Book Of Kells, we climb the stairs to the LONG ROOM of the OLD LIBRARY. lined on either side by marble busts below a double-vaulted ceiling with the GAIA (a three-dimensional artwork of the earth) rotating in the middle of the library. Quite a sight to behold.
