The great thing about Echo Park is that you can easily walk from a relaxing park with a lake view to some of the coolest bars and shops in the city. I consider Echo Park to be Silver Lake's edgier sibling with more grunge and art. It's become a hub for the trendiest musicians and creatives in Los Angeles. Two of my favorite concert venues are located in Echo Park: The Echo and the Echoplex. I'd recommend hitting up Masa for some amazing (and DENSE) deep-dish pizza then catching a show at one of these venues.
