A storm abruptly rolled in and trapped me on peak of the mountain for several hours. The weather forecast was warm and sunny, but that was incredibly wrong. I took shelter under a rock as it hailed, rained, and lightning struck all around me. Because of the rain I was unable to climb back up the 80ft cliff that I previously free-soloed down earlier that day. I was totally stuck. The temperature was forecasted to drop well below freezing and I do not think I could have survived a night up there unprotected. It was jump or potentially freeze. The exit point rock was as slippery as ice which added a whole new element of technicality to the already sketchy exit. Not only that but the stormy conditions were creating sinking air which I knew would push me into the terrain even deeper. After safely landing I had to hike several miles out in the dark. This is an exit I opened called "Elmos Fire." After this scary experience I took a 3 month break from wingsuiting.
