I wanted to get a concrete footing out of the ground and did not want to dig. I constructed a simple lever arm using spare lumber, cinder blocks and a chain. I was able to lift it out of the ground in just a few minutes. Using this method you can lift a footing weighing hundreds of pounds. The limitations are the strength of the beam and the load capacity of the chain.
