HEY DUDES AND DUDETTES!!!

Today we're going to look at a video from YouTube Creator Tired Cast (   / tiredcast  ) where he explains why we should be skeptical about Dead Island 2. Then we'll play Devil's Advocate to defend the upcoming sequel given there is plenty of evidence from video games past to support that DI2 has a shot at being great.

The original developers of Dead Island, Techland, started out as a small video game software developer in 1999. From that time until 2006 they created relative small CD-ROM style racing games and other projects that would never support the idea that they could tackle a project like Dead Island. From 2006 to 2011 Techland would create Call of Juarez, a first-person shooter video game series created by Paweł Selinger in 2006. Released primarily on Microsoft Windows, PlayStation 3, and Xbox 360, there are four games in the series; Call of Juarez (2006), Call of Juarez: Bound in Blood (2009), Call of Juarez: The Cartel (2011), and Call of Juarez: Gunslinger (2013). While Call of Juarez was not Techland's first attempt at the FPS genre it would be their most successful. It would be 5 years from the first games release that Techland would release Dead Island as well as the third sequel to Call of Juarez.

Tired Cast in his video explains that the games initial visionaries, Techland, are now missing from the game meaning that the vision of Dead Island 2 has the chance to stray farther from what was presented to us in Dead Island. This coupled with the fact that the sequel has been bounced around 3 times between equally inexperienced developers is a red flag that the game will not meet fan expectations. HOWEVER as you will see in today's video, there are plenty of successful video game sequels that have come from second hand developers, games that may have had little to no influence from the original developers.

ABOUT THE GAME:
Dead Island 2 is an upcoming action role-playing game developed by Dambuster Studios and published by Deep Silver. It is the sequel to the 2011 video game Dead Island and the third major installment in the Dead Island series. Set several months after the events of Dead Island and Dead Island: Riptide, Dead Island 2 differentiates itself from its predecessors by taking place in the city of Los Angeles, which has been quarantined due to the zombie outbreak. The game is slated to release for PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Stadia, Windows, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X/S on February 3, 2023.

Announced in 2014, the game has undergone a difficult development period due to multiple changes with the studios working on it. Yager Development was originally hired to develop Dead Island 2 in 2012, but was removed from the project in 2015 and replaced by Sumo Digital the following year. Sumo Digital would also be removed, with Dambuster, an internal studio of Deep Silver, becoming the developers in 2019.

Dead Island 2 takes place in an open-world Los Angeles, San Francisco, dubbed HELL-A and an undisclosed third location in California, unlike the first game which was set on the fictitious island of Banoi off the coast of Papua New Guinea. The game's combat has different mechanics than its predecessors. Dead Island 2 also includes several features from its predecessors, such as the "rage" and crafting systems.

A couple of months after the events of Dead Island, the United States Armed Forces has put California under a full quarantine restricted zone due to a new and stronger zombie outbreak.
