Classic TV Theme: Dan August (Dave Grusin)

Burt Reynolds wasn't the first Dan August. Christopher George was, in the pilot tv-movie 'House on Greenapple Road'. Reynolds wasn't that interested in playing a cop for the series, but the $15,000/week salary helped take care of that. The 1970 ABC show only lasted one season, but when Burt's movie career picked up steam, CBS aired reruns that did better than the first-runs did. Later five Dan August 'movies' (two episodes stitched together) aired on ABC. Dave Grusin penned the jazzy theme, somewhat obscured by the traditional Quinn Martin voiceovers (though we have a way around that). Where necessary time-compressed audio has been restored to its proper pitch and speed.
