On November 24, 1971, a man using the alias "Dan Cooper" hijacked Northwest Orient Flight 305, a Boeing 727 traveling from Portland to Seattle. Calmly claiming he had a bomb, he demanded $200,000 in cash, four parachutes, and a refueled plane. After releasing the passengers upon landing in Seattle and receiving his ransom, Cooper instructed the crew to fly towards Mexico City at a low altitude and slow speed. Mid-flight, he opened the plane's rear airstair and parachuted into the stormy night over Washington, vanishing without a trace. Despite decades of investigation, including recovered ransom bills in 1980, Cooper's identity and fate remain one of the greatest mysteries in U.S. history.
