The Adani-Hindenburg saga attracted a lot of media attention with the Adani Group losing a $100 billion in market capitalization within a week of the short selling report breaking out. But short selling is now new and the first recorded transaction happened over 400 years ago in the early 17th century. In this video, I take how through a historical account of short selling as I explain what short selling is, how short sellers make money and I've also included a demo of how you can conduct short selling on Zerodha or any other trading platform.

Additionally, I have included some short selling examples including:
a) Issac Le Maire shorting the shares of Dutch East India Company
b) Dr. Michael Burry's Scion Capital, Steve Eisman of Frontpoint Partners and Cornwall Capital's Jamie Mai shorting the housing market just before the 2008 Financial Crisis
c) George Soros and that famous episode when he broke the Bank of England by making a play on the British Pound by short selling it
d) Bill Ackman and Herbalife which was an unsuccessful short by the Founder and CEO of Pershing Square Capital (a hedge fund)
e) GameStop short squeeze and how hedge funds like Melvin Capital, Citron Research, Point72 Asset Management, Maplelane Capital and D1 Capital Partners losing money on that trade with some even going bankrupt as a consequence of that short squeeze
