Doctors at Upstate have performed more than 500 living donor kidney transplants, which is a major milestone for the program that started in 1968. Reza Saidi, MD, director of Upstate’s Kidney Transplant Program, has a goal of increasing the percentage of living donor transplants. Kidneys from living donors can be transplanted in scheduled surgeries. Saidi explains that people can live normal lives with one kidney, and he tells how people can find out if they qualify to donate a kidney.
