Carpal tunnel syndrome is a common condition that causes numbness, tingling, and pain in the hand and forearm. Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when one of the major nerves to the hand — the median nerve — is squeezed or compressed as it travels through the wrist.

Carpal Tunnel Syndrome

The carpal tunnel is a narrow passage inside the wrist formed by bones on the bottom and a carpal ligament on top.
The median nerve and flexor tendons pass through the carpal tunnel to control the thumb and two and a half fingers.
Carpal tunnel syndrome occurs when the median nerve is squeezed or compressed at the wrist. 
Carpal tunnel syndrome causes tingling, numbness, pain, or weakness in the hand. 

Risk Factors
The Risk Factors include:
1. Repetitive hand/wrist motions
2. Smaller Carpal Tunnel
3. Wrist Injuries
4. Conditions such as Diabetes, Obesity

Treatment Options
The doctor may recommend nonsurgical therapy such as
A wrist brace or splint
Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs)
Steroid injections
Strengthening or Stretching exercises

Surgical option include Carpal Tunnel Release Surgery (Endoscopic)
One or two small incisions are made in the wrist and palm
A cannula is inserted and placed next to median nerve
An endoscope equipped with a small camera is inserted.
The ligament is cut from underneath to release the median nerve.
The incision is sutured and covered with a bandage. 

Post-Procedure care
Keep the arm elevated above your heart for 48 hours
Avoid pushing down on your palm
No repetitive movements like typing, texting for 1 month
Avoid lifting anything heavier
Avoid strenuous activities
Don’t drink alcohol.
Don’t smoke
Keep the incision dry
Take medicines as prescribed
