The language is cautious and caveated, and the peak of the crisis may still be two or three weeks away, but the government says there are signs that the distancing measures are having a real impact
Evidence presented on Monday 30 March at the government’s daily briefing suggested that transmission of coronavirus in the community is thought to be decreasing, which could mean fewer infections.
Hospital admissions data suggests cases are not rising as fast as some had feared.
Sir Patrick said the NHS was seeing around an additional 1,000 patients a day and described this daily rise as "stable".
Is this evidence that the UK is turning the tide on the coronavirus pandemic, or is it simply still too early to tell?
