Alex Kajitani is the 2009 California Teacher of the Year, and a Top-4 Finalist for National Teacher of the Year. Seeking a way to connect with his at-risk middle school students, Alex began to integrate rap music with the math he was teaching. Now known around the country as "The Rappin' Mathematician," his CDs are being used in classrooms and homes around the world, and he has been featured on the CBS Evening News with Katie Couric. Alex now runs www.alexkajitani.com. He is on a mission to "Make Math Cool," speaks cross-country, and writes a bi-monthly column for teachers of at-risk students.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event.
