Mat’s over in America, and he’s got his hands on an all-new Dodge Charger!

It’s the most powerful American car you can buy for under $55,000, but here’s the thing - he isn’t a big fan of American cars! So does the new Charger have what it takes to change his mind? Let’s take a closer look…

In terms of the design, it looks absolutely gorgeous! From any angle, it’s clear that inspiration has been taken from retro muscle cars from the 1970s. Up front, it appears super wide, and it comes with an illuminated grille and a headlight design that just gives it a menacing air. Around the back, the boxy, retro design continues, and the stick of truth confirms there are 100% real exhaust tips on either side. It’s a true sight to behold!

On the inside, there are lots of things to like about the Charger. There’s a good amount of tech, and the infotainment screen is large, and the system is easy to use. There is also a good amount of storage. However, there are a few issues. For one, the position of the seats isn’t the most comfortable, and although there’s a large digital dial screen, the screen you’re like to want to use the most (the one with actual dials on!) isn’t the clearest.

The most powerful edition of the Dodge Charger comes with an incredible 5.8-litre supercharged V8… But unfortunately, it’s not road legal! In its place, you will have to settle for a 3-litre twin-turbo straight-six (nicknamed the Hurricane), and this delivers 558hp and 720Nm. The car comes with selectable AWD, so you can send it to either the rear wheels or all four wheels.

The car we have here is the Dodge Charger Scatpack SIXPACK, which comes in at a cost of $65,000. However, this car also has $10,000 of options fitted to it. If you were to import this car to the UK, import charges would mean you’ll have to pay around £85,000 - pretty much the same as an M4 Competition!

So is the Charger a better choice than the M4? You’ll need to stick with Mat and see for yourself!
